WCAR: Promise Me

We Came As Romans (WCAR), a metalcore band from Troy, Michigan, brought on Kyle Pavone for vocals in 2008 when they needed a replacement for Chris Moore. Along with singing, Pavone also played the synthesizer. Being with WCAR for 10 years, Kyle and the band produced twenty-three music videos and five studio albums starting in 2009. The last album being Cold Like War which was released on October 20, 2017.

Along with many people in today's world, Kyle struggled with an addiction. According to his girlfriend Allie Ciotti, he was struggling with a heroin addiction. On August 25, 2018 Allie noticed Kyle was spending quite sometime in the bathroom and went to check on him. After knocking on the door and getting no response, she forced her way in and discover him unconscious near a used syringe. She dialed 911 and started chest compressions as directed. Upon arriving, the EMTs administered a shot of Narcan to Kyle and rushed him to the hospital where he later went into cardiac arrest and passed away at 28 years old. His official cause of death was labeled as an accidental overdose.

Kyle's band mates, family, and friends released this statement shortly after his passing:

"On Saturday, August 25, we lost our son, our brother, our best friend, and bandmate to an accidental overdose.

The opposite of addiction is connection. If you are feeling disconnected or lost, there is help.

Please take action, whether that is talking to your families or friends, meeting with a counselor, or joining a support group.

If you are a friend or family member of someone who is struggling, do not be silent!

If you are an artist in need of support through your struggle, we have created the The Kyle Pavone Foundation in Kyle's honor, to help.

We look forward to celebrating Kyle's life again at a public event in early October at the Fillmore in Detroit.

Please join us to continue to support KylePavoneFoundation.org.

Thank you."

WCAR celebrated their late vocalist on October 28, 2018 at their benefit show where all the proceeds went to the foundation they created in his name. The benefit show was titled "Remember Me" in remembrance of Kyle's last tweet a week before his passing: "Will I be remembered or will I be lost in loving eyes" which are lyrics from their song "Promise Me". WCAR played a total of 18 songs with some special guests which included members of I Prevail who are also from Detroit. WCAR had many guests on stage with them, including For Today who has been split up since the last show of their farewell tour on December 18, 2016.

The Kyle Pavone Foundation aims to help musicians who are struggling with addiction and are not wanting the worry of the public eye. As many people look up to musicians, seeing them in their darkest moments could change your view of them and may deter some from being or becoming a fan. A lot of famous people, not just musicians, keep their addiction hidden and it often ends with their passing. This foundation wants to change that and help people take the steps they need to become healthy.

There are a few ways you can donate to The Kyle Pavone Foundation, the easiest texting "Support KYLE" to 20222 to donate $10.00. For all other ways you can visit their website. There is also limited edition merchandise from the memorial concert that you can purchase here.
